Jean_Claude_Ziv
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Jean-Claude Ziv. He passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2013. Jean-Claude was a friend, a colleague and a lot more for a lot of players in the transport sector around the world. He was a founder and general secretary CODATU. He will remain in our thoughts.

Jean-Claude ZIV left us at the age of 63 after battling a protracted fight with cancer and finally gave up on Monday, the 27th of May 2013.

Doctor of Planning and Engineering of the Ecole Centrale de Paris, Jean-Claude has devoted his career to issues of urban transport in France and abroad. In 1980, he was one of the organizers of the Dakar Conference on Urban Transport, which gave birth to CODATU the following year. The same year, he wrote a book with Charles Napoleon “Urban transport: a challenge for cities” which highlighted the role of transport in the land but also in the evolution of science, technology, administrative life and policy.

He continued his tireless commitment to this theme and framed many doctoral work at the Urban Planning Institute in Paris in the 1980s and at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) where he was elected in 1994, Professor Holder Chair “Transport and Tourism.” Tourism was also an area of ??activity in which he invested in parallel. He was particularly Advisor to the Director General of the company Wagonlit Carlson Travel.

Tireless, Jean-Claude has indeed developed many activities related to its mission, CNAM, especially for the realization of many studies, for example in Latin America particularly in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank or the World Bank. For numerous years, he also work for Veolia Transport. Foreign Trade Advisor, he was decorated in 2006 by the order of Knight of the Legion of Honor. To add another string to his bow, he even became Local elected in May 2008 and chaired the Syndicat Intercommunal Household Waste Uses and surroundings.

CODATU founder, Jean-Claude over 33 years, put a lot of energy to develop the activity of this association. His death leaves vacant the seat of Secretary General which he held always with the same enthusiasm. Irreplaceable personality, his departure is a great loss for CODATU network, as he had forged links worldwide with academic partners and experts from all countries. All his friends were able to benefit from his boundless generosity and helpfulness towards his partners and collaborators.

Despite all his efforts, the cancer got the better of his optimism. He is survived by his four children, Laura, Camille, Nicolas and Helene. We propose that you send your messages of sympathy, and various souvenirs , memoirs from friends of the urban transport fraternity worldwide. This we intend to leave as our honor to him on this site. We will also share this with his family.

Thank you as you send us your messages as soon as possible.
