National Days For Urban Transport in Jordan

Following
the success of the events organized in Tunis (2014) and Rabat (2013), National Days for Urban Transport (NDUT) will occur in Amman on the 26^th, 27^th and 28^th of October 2015. This event stems from a partnership between CODATU, the CMI, the French Agency for Development (AFD), the CEREMA, Euromed, and the Jordanian Ministry of Transports.

The National Days for Urban Transport aims at tackling urban mobility issues faced by the country, in which more than 80% of the population live in the urban areas, with an important growth rate, partly due to the important inflow of Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees since the second half of the 20^th century.

These meetings will gather local and national stakeholders, such as political decision makers, representatives from municipalities and the different ministries, transport companies, associations and universities, as well as international experts. Six thematic sessions will aim at addressing major topics such as transport planning, transport / planning integration, regulation and governance, sustainable financing models, etc.

The third day of the event will be dedicated to a workshop organized by Euromed on the topic: “How to implement sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMP)?”

The event’s timing is appropriate, as it matches with the delivery of the Ministry of Transport’s action plan for the development of the national public transport network. Moreover, the consultant team in charge of its realization will actively participate to the event.

At the end of these meetings, a “roadmap for a sustainable urban mobility in Jordanian cities” will be produced. It will derive from the different expectations raised during the debates.
