CODATU News Tuesday 29 September 2020

CODATU participated in the 11th meetings of the International Action of Territorial Collectivities (IATC) organized by Cités Unies France on September 21 and 22, 2020 in Paris. This event was organized in partnership with the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the PLATFORMA project, co-funded by the European Union

The meetings of the International Action of Territorial Collectivities are organized each year to allow French and foreign communities – small, medium and large cities, departments, regions, metropolis – to come together and exchange about the challenges of the international action by local authorities, to consider new prospects for exchanges and to create links as well as opportunities for cooperation.

This meeting was structured around two issues:

  • Raising awareness and informing the IATC to support new elected officials
  • The need to learn the lessons of the Covid-19 crisis and to discuss developments in international action by communities

To achieve this goal, the 2020 edition took place around different formats. After an official opening of the congress, the plenary sessions addressed the theme of “after Covid” by questioning the need for the IATC and the renewal of the geopolitical configuration. Thematic workshops made it possible to focus on specific objects and points solved solutions in identified geographies.

The entire congress program is available here.

The micro-workshops were short formats allowing moments of discussion. CODATU presented two micro-workshops as part of its missions.

The AUTREMENT project:

CODATU and the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg presented the AUTREMENT project. Begun on June 1, 2020, the AUTREMENT project aims to promote sustainable urban development in Kairouan and Mahdia (Tunisia) and thus improve the quality of life of their inhabitants and economic and tourist attractiveness. This project is articulated between the development of active mobility, the implementation of dedicated facilities and citizen participation. This project is a partnership between CODATU, the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, the Tunisian cities of Kairouan and Mahdia, ALDA and CEREMA.

The Urban Transport Community (UTC) project:

The Urban Transports Community is a project led by MedCités (Barcelona, Spain), in partnership with CODATU, UNIMED Union of Mediterranean Universities (Rome, Italy), Area Science Park (Trieste, Italy), CIVINET CY-EL (Cyprus – Greece), POLIS, Cities and regions for innovation in transport (Brussels, Belgium), and the Municipality of Durres (Durres, Albania). The micro-workshop was the opportunity to launch the call for capitalization phase of the UTC project. Indeed, the UTC project promotes the planning of sustainable urban mobility in the Mediterranean region through the exchange and capitalization of the actions envisaged within the framework of GOSUMP1 towards other actors interested in these actions. This was the opportunity for the present French local authorities to discover the UTC project, its philosophy as well as the next steps of the call for demonstrations.
